Project Manager - Cumbria - Major Highways Project

Join a leading name in the UK Civil Engineering sector and a key player in infrastructure delivery and take the lead on a range of exciting current and upcoming infrastructure projects across Cumbria. Delivering one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure upgrades – the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project. With a project value of £120 million, this scheme will transform connectivity across the North of England. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of this major highways scheme based in Penrith.
Your new role :
As Project Manager, you will take full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and execution of the A66 project. You will lead a multidisciplinary team through all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the A66 highways project from pre-construction through to completion.
- Manage project scope, programme, budget, and risk in line with client and stakeholder expectations.
- Coordinate with design, commercial, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance across all site activities.
- Engage with National Highways and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment and communication.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and manage procurement strategies.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to project teams and junior staff.
- Report regularly on project progress, cost control, and risk mitigation.
What you'll need to succeed :
- Proven experience managing large-scale highways or infrastructure projects, ideally within a National Highways framework.
- Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- All relevant tickets such as CSCS, SMSTS Etc.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to project delivery.
