Principal Environmental Consultant, £47,000 - £55,000 (DOE), Scotland

Your new company

My client is a dynamic and experienced team of environmental consultants working across the UK.

Their clients include major commercial organisations, public sector bodies, land developers, renewable energy companies, and house builders. Our mission is to simplify environmental planning for our clients, enabling them to deliver projects successfully and responsibly.


Your new role

As Principal Environmental Consultant, you will:

  • Lead environmental projects from feasibility through to consent and post-consent stages
  • Act as EIA Project Manager, including screening, scoping, and authoring/reviewing technical chapters.
  • Ensure projects meet deadlines, budgets, and comply with UK and devolved environmental legislation
  • Mentor and line managing team members, supporting their technical and professional growth.
  • Coordinate internal specialists and external sub-consultants
  • Contribute to business development through bids, tenders, and proposals
  • Represent the company at client meetings and stakeholder engagements
  • Support internal process improvements, including ISO-aligned management systems
  • Undertake site visits as required

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong knowledge of UK and devolved environmental legislation
  • Proven experience managing EIA and environmental planning projects
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to generate business and maintain client relationships
  • Expertise in at least one environmental discipline (e.g., ecology, hydrology, landscape)
  • Experience managing external suppliers and sub-consultants
Desirable
  • Experience with ISO management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Chartered status (CEnv) or membership of a relevant professional body (IES, CIEEM)
