Are you a qualified legal professional with a passion for planning law and public service? One of my public sector clients is looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Planning Solicitor to join their Litigation and Planning Team on an interim basis. As a Senior Solicitor, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services across the Council, with a focus on Town & Country Planning, Highways, and related litigation. You’ll provide expert legal advice to officers and elected members, represent my client in court and at committees, and contribute to shaping planning policy and practice.
This role is paying between £45-£60 per hour, and will be offered on a 3-month rolling interim basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on planning, highways, enforcement, and village green matters
- Draft and negotiate complex legal documents, including S106 agreements
- Represent the Council in courts and tribunals
- Support and advise Planning Committees and other Council bodies
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, deputising for the Team Leader when required
- Promote best practice, risk management, and continuous service improvement
✅ What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate
- Strong experience in planning law, including committee advice and enforcement
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Knowledge of highways law, court procedures, and local authority governance
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and work collaboratively across teams
