Payroll Team Leader Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to join their busy team

Duties include;
  • Lead and manage the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Allocate tasks and monitor performance to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Oversee the preparation and processing of payroll for all employees.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal policies.
  • Review and approve payroll calculations, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Ensure payroll complies with HMRC regulations and employment laws.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports (e.g., PAYE, NI, pensions).
  • Maintain accurate records for audits and internal reviews.
  • Manage payroll systems and software, ensuring data integrity.
  • Liaise with IT or vendors for system upgrades or troubleshooting.
  • Act as the point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees and management.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance departments on payroll-related matters.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes.
  • Implement best practices and process improvements.
  • Train new payroll staff and ensure ongoing development of the team.
You will have;
  • Proven experience in payroll processing, ideally in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NI, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Experience with payroll software
  • Familiarity with auto-enrolment and pension schemes.
  • Experience managing or supporting payroll audits and compliance checks.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel (e.g., vlookups, pivot tables).
