About the Company

We are working with a well-established manufacturing business based in Swindon, known for its innovation, quality, and commitment to operational excellence. As the company continues to grow, they are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join their finance team and support core accounting functions.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting month-end processes, maintaining financial records, and ensuring accurate reporting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a part-qualified accountant looking to develop their career in a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal postings and accruals
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Assist with cost accounting and analysis of manufacturing variances
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and support capital expenditure tracking
  • Process intercompany transactions and reconciliations
  • Prepare VAT returns and support other tax-related filings
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to queries
  • Support inventory accounting and liaise with operations on stock movements
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial data
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives

Experience & Skills Required

  • Part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or actively studying
  • Previous experience in a finance role, ideally within manufacturing or industrial sectors
  • Strong understanding of double-entry accounting and financial controls
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs); experience with ERP systems desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and take ownership
