About the Organisation

Our client is a long-established and highly respected organisation that has been supporting vulnerable individuals, carers and local communities for several decades. Through the delivery of care services and a range of support programmes, including advocacy, wellbeing initiatives and community engagement activities, the organisation plays an important role in improving lives and promoting independence.

Following a recent strategic review and organisational restructure, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Director to provide strong leadership and operational oversight during a significant period of change and development.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Board and managing two senior leaders, the Operations Director will oversee the day-to-day operational performance of the organisation, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with strategic objectives. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving organisational effectiveness, embedding a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance across all service areas.

Working closely with the Board, senior management team and key external stakeholders, the Operations Director will be responsible for translating strategic priorities into operational plans, ensuring resources are utilised effectively and services consistently meet regulatory, contractual and quality standards. They will provide visible leadership across the organisation, supporting teams through change, addressing operational challenges and fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.

The post holder will lead on service improvement initiatives, performance monitoring, workforce planning, risk management and operational governance. They will identify opportunities to strengthen processes, improve efficiencies and enhance the overall experience of service users, stakeholders and partner organisations.

This role requires a commercially minded and strategically focused leader who can balance long-term planning with hands-on operational management. The ability to build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and lead teams through periods of change will be critical to success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across all organisational functions.
  • Lead and support senior managers to deliver high-quality, person-centred services.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory, governance and contractual requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency and service excellence.
  • Develop and monitor operational plans aligned to organisational strategy.
  • Oversee organisational performance, analysing KPIs and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and collaborative culture across the organisation.
  • Lead organisational change initiatives and support staff through periods of transformation.
  • Manage organisational risk, ensuring robust governance and business continuity arrangements are in place.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with the Board, local authorities, commissioners, regulators and community partners.
  • Support financial sustainability through effective resource management and budget oversight.
  • Ensure the organisation maintains a strong reputation within the local community and wider sector.

The Person

The successful candidate will be an experienced operational leader with a strong track record of managing services, leading teams and driving organisational performance. They will possess excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across all levels of an organisation and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

A commercially minded and strategic thinker, they will be capable of balancing long-term organisational objectives with the practical demands of day-to-day operations. They will be confident leading through change, implementing improvements and developing solutions to complex operational challenges while maintaining a focus on quality service delivery.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong decision-making, problem-solving and organisational skills, alongside experience of performance management, resource planning, governance and continuous improvement. They will be a collaborative and resilient leader who can inspire confidence, foster a positive working culture and support teams through periods of growth and transformation.

Experience within a regulated, service-led, public sector, third sector or commercial environment would be advantageous, although applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate transferable operational leadership experience gained across a variety of sectors.
