General Manager - Manufacturing
Smurfit Advert – Abercarn
Job title – General Manager
Salary: Competitive, plus bonus and benefits Location: Abercarn, South Wales
Smurfit Westrock is the go-to sustainable packaging partner of choice. We offer an unrivalled product portfolio and bring expertise, scale and a global presence of 500+ converting operations and 63 mills across 40 countries. Our company continues to grow its global reach with over 100,000 employees across 6 continents, and $32+ billion net sales. Due to an internal promotion, we currently have an opportunity for a dynamic new General Manager to lead from our Abercarn site near Newport, Wales.
Smurfit Westrock Abercarn forms part of the XXL businesses within Smurfit Westrock Corrugated UK. It has the expertise to design, manufacture and assemble large format packaging solutions beyond conventional size limitations. It has a turnover of approximately c£20m and c70 staff. It is a profitable business, and it is perhaps worth stating that we are the UK leaders in producing ‘one piece’ large scale corrugated boxes. As General Manager, you’ll be responsible for P&L and for setting the strategy that will yield further growth and profitability.
In the role, you’ll be supported by a strong leadership team which would include Sales, Operations, Financial Control and HR. Clearly it will be advantageous to have knowledge of paper-based packaging, but you could also come from a high-volume manufacturing environment with a track record of delivering growth. Having said that, for us it is more important that you are strategic in your outlook and bring the right values as a leader
Although you may not come from the sector, you’ll be tenacious and resilient and most importantly, you’ll have the leadership qualities that allow you to engage staff, generate enthusiasm and motivate your team. You’ll share our values of integrity, loyalty and trust. This will ensure that you’re a good fit for a driven company with a family ethos like us.
Sound like you? Please read the candidate information and follow the how to apply instructions. Our recruiting partners at Hays Executive will be happy to assist if you have any queries. Please contact Garfield Cameron - 07772 715016 or Giuseppe Gibilaro - 07480121196
