3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

Your new role

Overview:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced 3rd Line ICT Support Engineer to join a collaborative IT function within a purpose-driven organisation. The role focuses on ensuring a secure, reliable, and high-performing IT environment while contributing to technical project delivery and providing senior-level support across the business.


Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Support:
- Maintain the availability, performance, monitoring, and security of the organisation’s IT infrastructure
- Act as an escalation point, taking ownership of complex incidents and seeing them through to resolution
- Support the IT Service Desk by providing expert-level (3rd line) technical assistance
- Ensure incidents are logged, investigated, and resolved in line with internal standards


Project Delivery
- Deliver technical elements of IT projects, ensuring successful implementation
- Contribute to structured project environments (e.g. PRINCE2-style frameworks)
- Provide clear progress updates to relevant stakeholders

Systems & Technical Expertise
- Deploy, configure, and secure Microsoft Azure environments
- Implement and maintain networking hardware, including routers, switches, and wireless access points
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies across hardware and software


General Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of customer service and communication
- Build effective working relationships with internal teams and stakeholders
- Travel nationally when required
- Participate in out-of-hours support when necessary
- Undertake relevant training and contribute to continuous improvement
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information at all times

Essential Skills & Attributes

Technical Experience
- Windows 11 and ChromeOS environments
- Centralised OS deployment tools
- Desktop/laptop support (Windows & Chromebook)


Microsoft technologies:
- Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID
- Azure (VMs, storage, networking, security, monitoring)
- Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Defender, Purview


- PowerShell scripting
- Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPNs e.g. SonicWall)
- Router and wireless technologies (e.g. DrayTek)
- Broadband technologies (FTTC, FTTP, SOGEA)
- VoIP systems

- Printers, MFDs, and scanners

Experience:
- 3 years working in an IT support or infrastructure environment
- Experience with ITSM tools (e.g. Vivantio or similar)
- Exposure to structured project delivery environments (e.g. PRINCE2)
- Mobile Device Management (MDM) and application support
- Asset management platforms (e.g. ManageEngine Endpoint Central or equivalent)

CompTIA A+
PRINCE2
ITIL
