Principal Mechanical MEP Engineer - Manchester City Centre
Overview
A leading multidisciplinary consultancy with over 700 professionals across 17 UK offices is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Principal Mechanical MEP Engineer to join its expanding Building Services team. With over 100 M&E engineers nationally, the firm delivers innovative, sustainable, and technically robust engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of sectors.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys mentoring junior engineers, and is passionate about delivering excellence in mechanical building services design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services across a range of projects, from small-scale surveys to £50m developments.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight on projects in sectors including Parliament, Ministry of Justice, Education, Retail, Offices, Higher Education, Defence, Residential, and Nuclear.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, and internal teams to develop integrated and sustainable engineering solutions.
- Support and mentor intermediate and junior engineers, fostering technical growth and quality delivery.
- Undertake feasibility studies, condition surveys, and technical advisory roles as required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Contribute to sector-based development as the business evolves under new ownership.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
- Strong technical proficiency in relevant design software and tools (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit – Revit capability advantageous).
- Demonstrable experience across multiple sectors with a preference for candidates with a stable career history (minimum 2+ years per role).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage client relationships and internal teams.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (CIBSE or IMechE).
