We are delighted to be supporting a prestigious university in Central London in their search for an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join their Estates and Facilities team.

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Tradesperson to join its Maintenance Team. The department is responsible for the acquisition, upkeep, and disposal of property across a significant estate. The successful candidate will contribute to both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems and services.
Team members are expected to contribute equally to all tasks, including shared participation in call-out responses and shift coverage as needed.
Job Purpose: The Mechanical Maintenance Tradesperson will operate as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team, reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager. The role requires technical qualifications in a mechanical discipline and proven experience in the operation and maintenance of systems within large building complexes.
The position involves a standard working week based on a shift system, generally 07:00 to 15:00 Monday to Friday, with rotating late shifts from 12:00 to 20:00 and periodic Saturday shifts from 07:00 to 15:00. Flexibility for covering shifts at short notice is essential.
Main Responsibilities
- Conducting both planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems, including air handling units, piped and ducted systems, pumps, and pressurisation units
- Applying both theoretical and practical knowledge of L8 requirements
- Providing hands-on response to critical plant failures and undertaking field-based remedial work
- Documenting and completing planned maintenance activities
- Performing routine plant and system inspections during shifts
- Supporting the implementation of emergency and contingency procedures as needed
About You:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Proven experience in a similar building services/estates environment, ideally within the public or higher education sector
- Strong understanding of HVAC, BMS, and other mechanical systems
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
