Mechanical Design Engineer

Hays are working with a leading global engineering and technology organisation seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its high-performing product development team in County Antrim. This company designs and manufactures innovative sensing and control solutions used across a wide range of industries, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and continuous improvement. Due to sustained growth and ongoing investment, they are expanding their engineering capability.

Your new role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of mechanical components and systems for advanced products. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering innovative design solutions from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software
  • Supporting product development from concept, prototyping, and testing through to manufacture
  • Producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Performing tolerance analysis, material selection, and design validation
  • Collaborating closely with electrical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams
  • Supporting design reviews, failure analysis, and continuous improvement activities
  • Liaising with suppliers and external partners where required
What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this role, you should have:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing or product development environment
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, machining, or sheet metal
  • Experience with design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team
Desirable:
  • Experience in regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, or electronics)
  • Familiarity with FMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, and validation testing
