Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Widnes-based high school that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint experienced and motivated teaching assistants to support within the resource base. This school is looking to appoint a minimum of two qualified teaching assistants for full-time long-term contracts, 32.5 hours per week. This may lead to a permanent appointment for the right individual.
Your new role
You will be joining an extremely supporting and welcoming school and playing a key part in the education of pupils with SEN. You will be based within the resource provision, a class of 14 pupils with individual EHCPs and varying levels of needs, typically consisting of ASD, non-verbal, GLD and PECA syndrome. You will work alongside the class teacher to offer a stimulating and engaging learning environment by getting to know your pupils as individuals, utilising an array of learning equipment and adapting lessons to suit your pupils' needs. Your pupils will at times present behaviours that challenge, although not aggressive, the classroom can become extremely loud. In the event that this happens, you will implement positive behaviour strategies that your pupils respond best to, such as movement breaks, brain breaks, pressure therapy and sensory circuits. If behaviours continue to escalate, you will remove the pupil or pupils from the classroom to give time to burn off steam before reintegrating. Other duties will include:
- Speech and language interventions
- 1:1 interventions in Maths and English (key stage 2 level)
- Social and emotional development: integrating pupils into new pupil groups
- Teaching pupils later life skills
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, have a minimum of 40 days referenceable classroom experience within a secondary school in the last 2 years, and:
- Be willing to undergo DBS screening
- Have experience supporting SEN
- Be at least NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualified
