About the Environment
This position is based within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment that supports advanced production, technical operations, and regulated processes. The site operates to high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency, with a focus on continuous improvement and reliability across all manufacturing and support systems.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Technician will carry out maintenance duties across mechanical plant and building services equipment. The role includes planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, and ensuring the safe and compliant operation of mechanical systems within a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Planned & Reactive Maintenance
- Complete planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks on mechanical and M&E plant.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly to minimise operational disruption.
- Carry out mechanical repairs, adjustments, and component replacement as required.
Mechanical Systems & Asset Care
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment such as pumps, valves, HVAC components, pipework, compressors, motors, and associated utilities.
- Conduct mechanical fault finding using established diagnostic methods.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with minor project work or system upgrades.
Compliance, Documentation & Safety
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, environmental, and site compliance requirements.
- Complete maintenance records, incident reports, and associated documentation accurately.
- Work in accordance with risk assessments, method statements, and the standards expected within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Operational & Stakeholder Support
- Provide a high standard of service to onsite teams, working to defined KPIs and service expectations.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and escalate technical issues appropriately.
- Participate in emergency call‑out duties or lone working if required.
Contractor Coordination
- Support the coordination and oversight of third‑party contractors, ensuring compliance with site safety procedures and documentation requirements.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong mechanical engineering background in industrial, manufacturing, or technical environments.
- Proven ability to fault‑find and maintain mechanical and M&E equipment.
- Experience working within factory or regulated environments.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe systems of work.
Desirable
- Experience within pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or other GMP‑regulated environments.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement or reliability‑focused maintenance practices.
- Basic building fabric repair skills.
Qualifications
- Time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Additional H&S or specialist mechanical training beneficial (e.g., LOTO, confined space, MEWP certification).
