The Estate
This role is based on a large private rural estate in Buckinghamshire, located close to Junction 5 of the M40 near Stokenchurch. The estate has a long and well‑established history and comprises a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, and heritage buildings, as well as extensive landscaped parkland and grounds.
Following significant investment and redevelopment over recent decades, the estate now supports a wide range of activities, including residential living, events, landscaped gardens, leisure facilities, and maintained infrastructure such as private roads, utility networks, and water systems. The estate operates to high standards, with a strong focus on quality, discretion, and long‑term stewardship.
Overall Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad range of building maintenance and ground works activities across the estate. The role involves both planned preventive maintenance and reactive works, supporting the upkeep of estate infrastructure, utilities, and properties.
Key responsibilities include maintenance, repair, and installation works relating to:
- Tarmac roads and gravel tracks
- Paving, slabs, block paving, and cobbled surfaces
- Drainage and sewer systems, including associated soakaways
- Trenching for water, electrical, and telecommunication services
- Construction and repair of pits and access manholes
- Repairs to underground water pipes and related equipment, including livestock water troughs, stopcocks, and water meters
- General property and estate maintenance tasks as required
Skills, Experience, and Attributes Required
- CPCS or NPORS certified operator or driver, minimum of two years’ experience
- Previous experience in rural or country estate ground works maintenance desirable but not essential
- Proven experience in both planned preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and discreetly
- Positive, proactive attitude with a practical and solution‑focused approach
- Full and current driving licence
- Basic to intermediate IT skills
Qualifications
- Qualified Maintenance Ground Worker and Machine Operator
- CPCS or NPORS certification required, minimum of two years’ operational experience
