Assistant Accountant, Telford, £32 - 35000

Your new company

Hays are proud to be working exclusively with a well-established organisation based in Telford, seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their finance team.

Your new role

You will work closely with the Financial Controller to assist in the preparation and delivery of month-end and year-end financial reporting. This role requires strong attention to detail, a proactive approach, and solid understanding of core accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements
  • Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals and prepayments
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Support the development and monitoring of cash flow forecasts
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends and anomalies
  • Oversee stock control processes and ensure accurate inventory reporting

What you'll need to succeed

Ideally, you will hold an AAT qualification (or equivalent) and have demonstrable experience supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts. Strong IT proficiency is essential, particularly advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems.
You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team, with the ability to take ownership of your workload and deliver results with minimal supervision. A high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and a methodical, organised approach are key to success in this role.

What you'll get in return

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation and become a key member of a close-knit finance team. The role offers genuine ownership of responsibilities and the chance to make a meaningful impact by contributing ideas and suggesting process improvements.
In return, the company provides a competitive remuneration package, including favourable working hours, generous holiday entitlement, and a range of employee benefits designed to support your wellbeing and professional growth.
