About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a collaborative and forward-thinking building services team. This role offers the opportunity to lead mechanical design across a diverse range of public and private sector projects, delivering sustainable and technically robust solutions from concept through to completion.
️ Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and specification of mechanical building services systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services
- Deliver projects through RIBA Stages 1–6, ensuring compliance with current regulations and best practices
- Coordinate with internal disciplines (electrical, architectural, structural) and external stakeholders (clients, contractors, consultants)
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians within the team
- Attend client meetings, design reviews, and site inspections as required
- Contribute to fee proposals, resource planning, and project programming
- Ensure designs are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high technical standard
- Support the development of low-carbon and energy-efficient design strategies
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered or working toward CEng status with a relevant institution (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and design codes
- Proficient in designing software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, and IES/TAS
- Experience working on education, healthcare, residential, or public sector projects is advantageous.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
