Temporary Construction Buyer role in Letchworth – competitive hourly rate, immediate start, 5 days on-site

Your new company

Join a well-established and respected organisation within the construction sector, known for delivering high-quality residential developments. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a busy and collaborative team environment on a temporary basis.

Your new role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Buyer for a temporary position based on-site in Hertfordshire. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, typically 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (with some flexibility available). You will be working closely with a small, dedicated team including a Materials Manager and another Buyer. They are seeking someone with primarily housebuilding experience for a developer, with experience of scheduling and a thorough understanding of working drawings to produce take-offs. The “buying” in terms of negotiating pricing/dealing with suppliers is not necessarily required.

Key responsibilities include:
• Producing accurate take-offs from construction drawings for materials such as bricks, blocks, CLS, doors, and ironmongery.
• Reviewing and processing variations (VOs) and updating existing take-off schedules and orders accordingly.
• Managing and updating material orders using internal systems.
• Supporting the team with scheduling, information gathering, and general procurement tasks

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need:
• Proven experience in the housebuilding or residential construction industry.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings and the ability to perform accurate material take-offs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with procurement/order management systems; familiarity with COINS is advantageous but not essential.
• A conscientious, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Availability to start immediately and commit to a minimum 6-week assignment.

What you'll get in return

• Competitive hourly rate of c£20 - £30 per hour, depending on experience.
• Opportunity to work with a supportive and experienced team.
• Office-based role with a consistent Monday to Friday schedule.
• Potential for flexibility in working hours, subject to agreement.
• Valuable experience within a reputable construction environment.
