SEND Teaching Assistant - Derby

Position: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Derby
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract type: Short term or long term positions available

Hays Education are working with primary schools in Derby who are looking for Teaching Assistants to join their team on either a short or long-term basis. We also have permanent opportunities available. As an SEND Primary Teaching Assistant, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners.

Your role

We are looking for supportive, resilient, compassionate individuals to work within a school setting where you will be joining a skilled and cohesive team. The role is to support children in their learning and behavioural needs, and you will play a massive role in their development and educational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring their well-being and engagement in learning.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and minimise disruptions.
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum, adapting materials as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with students, offering emotional support and encouragement.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions.
Requirements:

  • Experience in a school environment
  • Relevant teaching assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • Experience working with SEND children is essential
  • Excellent classroom practice
  • Behaviour management
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
