Part Time Autism Project Worker
We are currently working on behalf of a national charity who are looking for candidates to undertake a short-term contract within their Autism Team. The team works closely with the families and young people with autism and supports them in gaining a better understanding of the diagnosis of autism, as well as helping them develop strategies to manage behaviour. The charity will consider people who have worked as Teaching Assistants and can demonstrate the relevant experience below.
The Role:
- Working within a team delivering one-to-one support to families with children with autism
- Contract is to start as soon as possible and will run till March 2026
- The role is for three days a week, 9 am – 5p m and is 22.5 hours per week and would be working on a timesheet basis for the duration of the contract
- Whilst you would be based in certain areas of Birmingham, there would be a need to travel in the role in order to carry out home visits
What you will need to carry out the role:
- In-depth knowledge, understanding and skills in working with children and young people with Autism
- Have an awareness of, or delivered PECS or Makaton to families on a one-to-one basis, with guidance from school
- Experience working with parents either facilitating a group programme or one-to-one and providing strategies and resources to support their understanding of autism
- Experience of working with children with autism one to one in a specialist setting, such as the classroom or in a specialist role to deliver an intervention package
