Were seeking an experienced HR Manager / HR Business Partner to undertake a HR generalist role in Portsmouth.

About the Role: We are seeking a proactive and experienced HR professional to join our growing Academy Trust as an HR Manager or HR Business Partner. This is a pivotal role supporting the Director of HR in shaping and delivering a high-quality, responsive HR service across schools.
You will work closely with school leaders and Central Trust teams to embed consistent HR practices, support workforce planning, and contribute to the development of a people-focused culture that supports staff wellbeing, performance, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Director of HR in designing and implementing HR strategies and policies.
  • Act as a key point of contact for HR advice and guidance across a portfolio of schools.
  • Lead on employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, and absence management.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of HR systems, processes, and reporting tools.
  • Ensure compliance with employment law, safeguarding, and safer recruitment practices.
  • Build strong relationships with school leaders and staff to promote a positive working environment.
  • Hands-on HR activities, including administration when needed.
What We’re Looking For:
  • CIPD qualified (Level 5 or above) or equivalent experience of HR
  • Proven experience in HR Management or HR Business Partnering within similarly complex organisations such as public sector or education.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR systems and HR best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • You will need to obtain a DBS as part of the role.
The Offer
Working on a contract basis via Hays for 6 months +
Based in Portsmouth, on-site full-time from 8am to 4pm

Ability to travel to other sites when needed in the Portsmouth Region.
