Health and Safety Officer
Hays Health & Safety are recruiting for a proactive and hands-on Safety, Health & Environmental Officer to join a leading manufacturing business at their site in Wigan.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this role is pivotal in driving forward a positive safety culture, challenging outdated practices, and empowering site teams to take ownership of Health and Safety.
A perfect role for somebody who has 1–2 years' experience working in a Health & Safety role in the manufacturing/engineering setting.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and development of site SHE practices
- Work closely with site management to deliver necessary action plans
- Monitor and report on SHE KPI's and report any necessary corrective actions
- Promote a strong behavioural safety culture and encourage open communication around SHE-related matters
- Assist in the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance standards
- Conduct RAMS, Audits and incident investigations
- Champion a culture of safety ownership, encouraging incident reporting and near misses and using the data to mitigate future risk
Candidate Profile - A NEBOSH National General Certificate is essential
- Experience or a qualification in supporting environmental standards is desirable
- Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
- Organised, process-driven, and confident in managing competing priorities
- Skilled in risk assessment, problem-solving, and internal auditing
- A natural communicator who listens to frontline teams and translates safety requirements into practical, relatable actions.
- Someone who challenges the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset and fosters a culture of openness and accountability.
