Health and Safety Officer

Hays Health & Safety are recruiting for a proactive and hands-on Safety, Health & Environmental Officer to join a leading manufacturing business at their site in Wigan.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this role is pivotal in driving forward a positive safety culture, challenging outdated practices, and empowering site teams to take ownership of Health and Safety.

A perfect role for somebody who has 1–2 years' experience working in a Health & Safety role in the manufacturing/engineering setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and development of site SHE practices
  • Work closely with site management to deliver necessary action plans
  • Monitor and report on SHE KPI's and report any necessary corrective actions
  • Promote a strong behavioural safety culture and encourage open communication around SHE-related matters
  • Assist in the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance standards
  • Conduct RAMS, Audits and incident investigations
  • Champion a culture of safety ownership, encouraging incident reporting and near misses and using the data to mitigate future risk

    Candidate Profile
  • A NEBOSH National General Certificate is essential
  • Experience or a qualification in supporting environmental standards is desirable
  • Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
  • Organised, process-driven, and confident in managing competing priorities
  • Skilled in risk assessment, problem-solving, and internal auditing
  • A natural communicator who listens to frontline teams and translates safety requirements into practical, relatable actions.
  • Someone who challenges the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset and fosters a culture of openness and accountability.
