Job Title: Group Accountant
Location: Liverpool (Hybrid)
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Job Type: Permanent

A well-established organisation based in Liverpool is seeking a Group Accountant to join its finance team. This is a pivotal role, offering the opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic direction of the business. You’ll be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting decision-making, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Finance with monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts.
  • Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage daily cashflow processes and forecasts.
  • Submit quarterly VAT returns for the group.
  • Monitor capital programmes and maintain audit-ready records.
  • Manage deferred capital grants and related reporting.
  • Prepare audit evidence and respond to external audit queries.
  • Provide financial insights and reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Attend finance and budget holder meetings as required.
  • Ensure quality control of financial data and intercompany transactions.
  • Provide technical accounting support and training to junior team members.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
  • Identify and implement improvements to systems and processes.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Support wider organisational activities during key operational periods.

Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
  • Qualified, Part-Qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Strong management and financial accounting background.
  • Analytical, innovative, and solutions-focused.
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in handling complex financial information and models.
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems experience.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexible and collaborative approach to work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed to continuous professional development.
