We’re pleased to be working with a wide network of primary schools across Taunton and Somerset, who are experiencing an increased need for reliable, flexible supply teachers. If you’re looking for daily cover, complete flexibility, and the chance to work across a variety of welcoming primary settings, this is a brilliant opportunity.
Whether you prefer regular short‑notice work, pre‑booked days, or a few days a week around other commitments, Hays Education can offer consistent supply opportunities to suit your availability.
Your new company
You’ll be supported by Hays Education, the leading supply agency for primary schools in the Taunton area. We work in partnership with a large group of local schools—including village primaries, academies, and multi‑form entry schools—who regularly request our teachers for EYFS, KS1, and KS2 cover.
With strong local relationships and a dedicated Taunton consultant, we can offer you regular supply teaching that fits around your lifestyle, childcare needs, or part‑time commitments.
Your new role
As a Primary Supply Teacher, you’ll be:
- Delivering pre‑planned lessons
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Supervising pupils across EYFS, KS1, or KS2 (depending on your preference)
- Providing a positive, nurturing learning environment
- Working across several schools in the Taunton area
This role is ideal if you’re:

What you'll need to succeed
To join our supply pool, you will need:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Experience teaching in UK primary classrooms
- Strong classroom presence and a calm, approachable manner
- Flexibility and a positive attitude
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
We welcome experienced teachers, ECTs, and retired teachers looking to pick up occasional work.
