SME seeking an ambitious Finance Manager/ Financial Controller
An established SME with international operations is seeking a Finance Manager/ Financial Controller to join their Leeds operation. This is a site-based site position, suited to a highly ambitious individual; a hands-on role, reporting functionally to the Group Financial Controller and working closely with the executive team to drive business performance. The opportunity is suited to a qualified professional with broad exposure to operational finance, governance, and strategic support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the full site P&L and balance sheet, delivering accurate month-end close and insightful variance analysis.
- Present monthly management accounts to senior leadership
- Oversee daily and weekly finance tasks including cash accounting, GL postings, AP, credit card management, and reconciliations
- Manage the full payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Maintain stock accuracy and financial controls around inventory, partnering with the Warehouse Manager
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle and provide commercial analysis on sales performance and cost drivers
- Review and report on margin performance, supporting optimisation of sales
- Coordinate and support the external audit process, ensuring full compliance
- Execute compliance filings including VAT, Intrastat, payroll, and pensions
- Oversee working capital, optimise collections and payments, and improve liquidity
- Support site governance and internal controls in collaboration with the Managing Director
- Ensure adherence to group policies and statutory requirements
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance operations
- Contribute to ad-hoc projects and business development activities
To be successful you will:
- Be a qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar) with a strong technical and commercial grounding.
- Proven experience in FP&A, budgeting, and variance analysis
- Strong IT proficiency, including Excel and ERP systems
- Highly proactive and hands-on, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong compliance orientation and internal control mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Extensive UK experience, in manufacturing, engineering, wholesale or supply chain environments
- The right to work in the UK, without expiry or sponsorship
