Financial Controller job for a growing SME near Warrington

A well-established and growing manufacturing group is seeking a qualified Financial Controller to lead financial control and reporting for its principal trading subsidiary. Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a pivotal role within the finance function, responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and supporting strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will oversee subsidiary-level reporting while also contributing to Group consolidation and statutory accounts preparation.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Ownership of monthly management accounts, reporting packs, and variance analysis
  • Balance sheet integrity and reconciliations
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Payroll oversight and ERP system integrity (Microsoft BC)
  • Preparation of Group consolidated results and statutory accounts (UK GAAP / IFRS)
  • Liaison with external auditors and stakeholders
  • Compliance with VAT, PAYE, and corporation tax filings
  • Support for R&D claims and technical accounting matters

Candidate Profile
We are seeking a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with:
  • Proven experience in both subsidiary and Group-level reporting
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP / IFRS
  • Hands-on experience in cash management, reconciliations, and payroll
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Microsoft BC desirable)
  • A proactive, detail-oriented mindset and collaborative working style
