Your new role

Reporting directly to the SLT, the Financial Controller is the operational lead for the finance function, taking responsibility for the leadership and delivery of the financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, reporting and control, and providing accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support strategic decision-making.

You will lead the day-to-day management of the finance function, overseeing accounting, payroll, financial reporting and financial controls, ensuring strong governance, compliance with relevant regulatory and charitable requirements, and the delivery of high-quality financial reporting and advice across the organisation. You will support financial strategy, long-term planning and the stewardship of the resources in line with its charitable objectives. Leading a team of 6, you will be responsible for the financial management systems and take ownership and optimisation of Sage Intacct as the core finance system.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with a strong financial control background, including month-end close, reconciliations, audit preparation and management reporting. An ability to communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders while maintaining professional rigour is essential, as well as high integrity, discretion and sound judgement in a governance-led environment. Knowledge of UK charity accounting and the Charities SORP is extremely beneficial, as is experience with VAT/partial exemption and/or trading activities and experience of endowments, restricted funds or investment reporting.
