Financial Accountant - Cornwall

A well‑established, values‑led organisation in Cornwall is seeking a Financial Accountant to support the Head of Finance and play a key role within the wider finance team. This position offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of financial accounting responsibilities, contributing to robust reporting, strong controls, and continuous improvement.
The role is suited to a detail‑oriented finance professional with a strong grounding in financial accounting who enjoys working in a structured, purpose‑driven environment.
Your new role
Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will take responsibility for core financial accounting activities and support the ongoing development of a data‑driven finance function.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Month‑end and year‑end close processes
- Production of VAT returns and support with statutory compliance
- Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
- Management of the sales ledger and associated reconciliations
- Preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Drafting elements of statutory accounts and supporting the annual external audit
- Implementing and streamlining financial policies and procedures
- Supporting ad‑hoc financial analysis, reporting and projects
This role offers exposure to both operational and strategic finance, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, controls and continuous improvement.
What you'll need to succeed
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or QBE or PQ)
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles
- Experience producing management accounts and statutory‑supporting reports
- Confidence with month‑end processes, reconciliations and VAT
- Good working knowledge of accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability
- Ability to work collaboratively while also managing responsibilities independently
Both fully qualified and part‑qualified candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
