In-house commercial lawyer - construction and infrastructure business

Your new company

The award-winning UK arm of a global engineering, construction and infrastructure business, that employs over 90,000 people globally and sells its products in over 150 countries. This exceptional, values-based business is highly acquisitive and is diversifying its offering from product manufacturing through to large scale service, construction and infrastructure projects. It takes its corporate social responsibility seriously, with significant involvement in charitable endeavours and a well-established apprenticeship programme. With an excellent leadership team and ambition for further organic and acquisitive growth, the business is an excellent place for a talented lawyer to ply their trade for the long term.

Your new role

A newly created in-house lawyer position reporting to the Finance Director, servicing the broader UK business in an initial standalone capacity. Taking ownership and accountability of legal contractual and project matters, the successful candidate will:

- Negotiate and review business-critical contracts including framework, (sub)contractor, supplier/services and general commercial agreements
- Negotiate and review key construction suite agreements (JCT/NEC)
- Ensure internal legal compliance in relation to ongoing and future infrastructure and services projects
- Support the business in future acquisitive transactional matters (without needing to be a corporate expert)
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to manage and mitigate legal and commercial risk

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an E&W or Commonwealth qualified lawyer with proven UK experience (and uninhibited working rights), and exposure to commercial and construction matters. Any exposure to the infrastructure, engineering or construction space will be beneficial. The hiring manager is open to profiles trained in private practice firms or in-house. You will be able to work from the Kent offices up to three times per week.

What you'll get in return

Earning a competitive salary (and discretionary bonus), you'll be able to take genuine ownership of this new role and mould it in your image – with the opportunity to potentially build a team in the long term. Benefiting from a hybrid working set up, you'll have significant flexibility in a mature environment. The business prides itself on its family-orientated values and comprehensive benefits.
