Finance Officer, Public Sector, Excellent flex, 36 days hols!!

Hays are partnering with a dynamic organisation dedicated to supporting families and communities to appoint a Finance Support Officer. This is a pivotal role that goes beyond traditional administration, requiring a confident, detail-driven individual with strong Excel and data management skills.

Your new role
As Finance Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the operational and financial running of the service. You will ensure accurate record-keeping, efficient processes, and robust data handling across multiple systems.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Logging, tracking, and managing high-volume invoices and financial records with audit-readiness in mind.
  • Maintaining and updating financial trackers, spreadsheets, and logs.
  • Using advanced Excel formulas (SUMIFS, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, IF statements) to automate calculations and reporting.
  • Building and maintaining structured spreadsheets, cross-referencing data across multiple sheets for accuracy.
  • Supporting budget monitoring, reconciliations, and financial queries.
  • Maintaining organised digital filing systems and supporting process improvements.
  • Ensuring compliance with governance, audit, and funding requirements.
  • Liaising with suppliers, staff, and external partners regarding invoices and queries.
  • Providing high-quality administrative support to the wider team, including audit and reporting requirements.


What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, data management, and spreadsheet automation.
  • Confidence in building and maintaining complex spreadsheets with cross-sheet data links.
  • Proven experience in financial processing or finance-related administration.
  • Experience handling high-volume financial data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to adapt to evolving processes.
