Public Sector Finance Business Partner, ASAP start, 12 months

Hays are delighted to be supporting a well-established organisation with the recruitment of a Finance Business Partner on a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will initially start on a temporary agency basis for the first 3 months before transferring onto a fixed-term contract for the remainder of the assignment.

Your new role
As Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for providing high-quality management, accounting support and business partnering services to a range of senior stakeholders. You will take ownership of monthly management reporting, providing insightful analysis and commentary to support organisational performance and informed decision-making. You will lead the annual budgeting and business planning process, ensuring accurate financial forecasts and effective budget management throughout the year. Working closely with budget holders and senior leaders, you will provide financial guidance, challenge and support to help achieve strategic objectives.
The role will also involve supporting government reporting requirements, budget reviews and spending submissions, while ensuring compliance with relevant financial controls and approval processes. You will maintain effective relationships with internal audit and other key stakeholders, contributing to strong governance and budgetary control across the organisation. In addition, you will be responsible for developing short and medium-term financial models to support planning activities, investment decisions and future resource requirements.

This role requires you to work out of the Birmingham office 2 days per week.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be a part-qualified accountant or a qualified-by-experience finance professional with strong management accounting and business partnering experience. Previous experience within the public sector is highly desirable, although applications from candidates with transferable experience will also be considered. You will have a proven track record of delivering budgeting, forecasting and management reporting processes, alongside the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Strong communication skills are essential, with the confidence to explain complex financial information to non-finance colleagues and provide constructive challenge where required.
You will be highly organised, resilient and able to work effectively within changing environments, managing multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines. Strong Excel skills, excellent attention to detail and experience of financial modelling are important. Experience of project accounting would be advantageous.
