School Finance Administrator – Preston - April Start - Temporary to Permanent

Are you looking for a rewarding finance role where your skills directly support young people and contribute to the smooth running of a busy school office?

Do you have strong numeracy skills, excellent attention to detail and experience working with financial systems?

Would you enjoy being part of a friendly, collaborative school office team in Preston where no two days are the same?

A well‑established school in Preston is seeking a Finance Administrator to join their supportive administration and finance team. This role is offered on a temporary basis initially, with the view to becoming permanent for the right person. This is a full-time (37 hours) position, working term time only + 2 weeks. Working hours across the week will be 8.30–4.30 Monday to Thursday and 8.30-4pm on Friday.

While previous school experience is desirable, it is not essential. Confidence in financial processes and systems is key for this position. Alongside finance duties, you will also support the main school office, assisting with visitor reception, parent enquiries and general administrative tasks.

Your new role

  • Supporting day‑to‑day finance operations, including processing orders, invoices and chasing suppliers.
  • Processing, coding and verifying purchase ledger invoices using Finance 6 and other school systems.
  • Handling supplier queries, reconciling accounts and assisting with weekly BACS payment runs
  • Maintaining organised financial records, student finance files and audit‑ready documentation.
  • Welcoming visitors to the school and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
  • Handling parent enquiries in person, by phone and via email.
  • Supporting general administrative tasks as part of the wider office team.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in a finance, accounts or purchase ledger role (school experience beneficial but not essential).
  • Strong numeracy, accuracy and organisational skills.
  • Confidence using finance systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive, team‑focused approach and willingness to support a busy school office.
  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with colleagues, parents and external organisations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality and the welfare of children and young people.
  • An enhanced DBS will be required.
