Full-time Business Support Officer on a temporary basis, hybrid working, Birmingham, £14.12 per hour
Your new company
Birmingham City Council is seeking a highly organised and proactive Business Support Officer to join their School Improvement Team on a temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that supports educational outcomes across the city. While the role is initially temporary, there is potential for a longer-term or permanent opportunity in the future.
Your new role
In this role, you’ll provide essential administrative and coordination support to the team, helping ensure meetings, communications, and processes run smoothly. You’ll be responsible for minute-taking (using Copilot as part of the process), tracking actions, managing inboxes, and responding to ad hoc requests such as booking meetings and coordinating diaries. You’ll work across platforms including SharePoint, Outlook, and live documents, and use tools like Inpulse and Pengeluim to manage meeting logistics, check availability, and book rooms.
You’ll also support in-person meetings by arranging refreshments and physical setup, and liaise confidently with schools, advisors, council members, and other stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is a keen eye for detail—especially when formatting minutes or drafting correspondence. You’ll also be expected to submit spend control requests, provide ad hoc support to the Head of Service, and coordinate with PAs across the wider team.
What you'll need to succeed
We’re looking for someone with previous experience in a similar role who can hit the ground running, work independently, and bring a sense of ownership to their role. Ideally, you’ll be seeking a long-term commitment and ready to grow with us as the team evolves.
What you'll get in return
You’ll receive a competitive hourly rate of £14.12 (including holiday pay), along with flexible hybrid working arrangements. While the role is predominantly home-based, you’ll be expected to attend the office when needed—particularly for meetings and team coordination.
