Mechanical Facilities Engineer required for a Liverpool based science

Your new job role will be working for a public sector organisation based in Liverpool who are dedicated to research and teaching in tropical medicine.
Your new role
Facilities Management
- Ensuring the Facility is well maintained and a high standard of service delivery is received from the in-house maintenance team and specialist external contractors
- Responsible for organising reactive maintenance and repair of HVAC, autoclaves and any specialist systems
- Responsible for maintenance and repair of en-suite bathrooms, sinks and plumbed facilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance, inspections and testing of all facilities, plant, equipment and systems within HCF
- With support from the HCF Administrator, day to day co-ordination of suppliers, contractors and staff, manage quotations and obtain approval to proceed from the Estates Manager/HCF Head of Operations
- Assist the Facilities Manager with various administrative tasks including updating spreadsheets, maintaining space management information on the CAFM system, analysing helpdesk requests etc.
Security and Fire Marshall
- Oversee operation and maintenance of the controlled door access system, audit issue and return of door access proximity cards issued to staff, students and visitors and maintain the proximity card database. Updating and changing access levels on the door access system in line with current policy.
- Security contractor and fire marshall training and oversight
- Assist the Facilities Manager to fulfil the Fire Officer operational duties – Carry out Fire risk assessment-fire audits, fire warden training, Evac chair training, FFE servicing, PEEPs etc
- Member of the emergency response team and participate in out-of-hours emergency contact/call out.
- Take the lead role in day-to-day management of security protocols and systems, including intruder alarm systems, CCTV and door access systems. Working knowledge of BMS, AutoCAD and CAFM systems.
Cleaning, Decontamination and Infection Prevention and Control
- By way of daily “cleaning / building audits”, monitor the quality of the cleaning in terms of service and delivery, thus ensuring the best level of service is always provided. Liaise with the housekeeping team leader as required.
- In consultation with the Facilities Manager, Laboratory Manager, and the Estates Manager, organise specialist cleaning i.e. laboratory cleaning, high level cleaning, window cleaning, clinical research cleaning, decontamination, fumigation. …
- Safe use and delivery of the hydrogen peroxide vapour generator
- Ensuring cleaning and decontamination of participant suites is performed to the highest standard, and conducting testing and certification once complete
Inspection and Audit
- Support the auditing, monitoring and inspection regimes to ensure the continued improvement of the condition of the estate, identifying issues for resolution with suitable mitigation measures
- Undertake quality checks of work undertaken by the in-house team and specialist contractors and generate reports accordingly
General Responsibilities

- Any other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the role
- Act as an “On Call” Engineer on a rota with other staff. Attend site outside of normal working hours if required for major incident, emergency situations, major plant or system failure where specialist technical support or managerial advice is needed
- Perform administrative duties identified by line manager, e.g. placing Purchase Orders, updating spreadsheets. Make purchases using the LSTM purchase card
- Cover for the Estates Manager during routine absences, supervising other members of the maintenance team and contractors. Support and promote team work with other service support teams as appropriate
- Take responsibility for own personal development. Participate in staff development and training sessions as required in order to enhance and up-date skills so as to maintain an efficient and effective service with an emphasis on customer care
What you'll need to succeed
For this role you will require;
- Good standard of numeracy and literacy- NEBOSH Certificate – General or Fire
- Fire Warden training
- Hold valid First Aid Certificate
- Customer care training
- SIA Licence-CCTV
- Fire risk assessor
- Mechanical HNC
