Start Date: September 2025

Contract: Full-time, Temporary (Maternity Cover – Full Academic Year)

Pay: M1 (£162/day) to U1 (£234/day) – Paid to Scale

Hays are recruiting an English teacher on a full-time contract as maternity cover. We are working with a local Swindon co-educational academy, who supports students aged 11–16and is committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive education. Your new role

You will be joining the English department as a Teacher of English on a full-time maternity cover contract, starting in September 2025 and running for the entire academic year. You will be responsible for teaching English across
Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering a curriculum that promotes literacy, creativity, and critical thinking.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons
  • Marking and assessing student progress
  • Attending parents’ evenings and contributing to school events
  • Supporting school trips and extracurricular activities
  • Becoming an active member of the school community

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • UK classroom experience teaching English
  • A passion for literature and language, and the ability to inspire students
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Availability to work full-time from September through to the end of the academic year
