Tool Room Engineer - Birmingham
A well‑established UK manufacturer within the engineering sector is seeking an experienced Tool Room Engineer to join its production team on a temporary basis, with a strong likelihood of extension depending on workload and performance.
The business supports multiple infrastructure and manufacturing markets, delivering high‑quality engineered and bespoke products to long‑standing customers. This is a hands‑on role within a stable manufacturing environment, well suited to engineers who value practical engineering and precision workmanship.
The Role
Working closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams, the Tool Room Engineer will provide essential support to day‑to‑day production activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Manufacturing, modifying and repairing jigs, fixtures and tooling
- Manual machining using lathes, milling machines and general tool room equipment
- Working from engineering drawings and technical sketches
- Providing reactive engineering support to production
- Supporting minor continuous improvement activities
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately and to quality standards
About You
This role would suit a practical, reliable engineer with strong tool room and manual machining experience.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a tool room or precision engineering environment
- Strong manual machining skills (lathe and mill essential)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- A methodical, hands‑on approach to problem‑solving
- Apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (desirable)
