Principal EC&I Engineer - Nuclear

Principal EC&I Engineer – Major Regulated Projects (Nuclear Sector)

Overview
A leading global engineering consultancy is seeking a highly experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to support a portfolio of major nuclear projects (MR projects). This is a senior technical role suited to someone who thrives in complex, highly regulated environments and enjoys driving engineering excellence across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of EC&I engineering design, analysis, and documentation across major nuclear projects.
  • Provide technical authority and oversight for EC&I systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
  • Develop and review design packages, including calculations, schematics, block diagrams, cable routing, safety systems, and control philosophies.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for nuclear safety‑related EC&I systems, supporting HAZOPs, design reviews, and safety case development.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, systems engineers, and other discipline leads to ensure integrated, high‑quality engineering solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid‑level engineers, promoting best practice and technical development within the team.
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to present designs, resolve technical queries, and support project delivery.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, innovation, and the development of engineering standards and processes.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working toward it.
  • Extensive experience delivering EC&I engineering within nuclear, defence, or other highly regulated sectors.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, safety‑related control systems, and relevant standards (e.g., BS EN 61508, BS EN 61511).
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage complex technical deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and regulators.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK without sponsorship.
