Position: Site Engineer

Rate: £330 per day (no CIS)

Location: Cheshire

Contract Length: 10 months

We’re partnering with a well‑respected regional contractor in Cheshire who are delivering a high‑profile refurbishment of a Grade II listed building in Chester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Engineer to support a sensitive, conservation‑led scheme where precision, technical accuracy, and a strong understanding of heritage construction are essential.

About the Role

As the Site Engineer, you’ll be responsible for all technical and setting‑out duties on the project, ensuring works are delivered accurately and in line with drawings, specifications, and heritage requirements. You’ll work closely with the Site Manager, subcontractors, and conservation specialists to maintain quality, protect the historic fabric of the building, and support the smooth running of daily site operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide precise setting‑out for structural, architectural, and conservation‑related works

• Carry out QA checks, record inspections, and maintain detailed site engineering documentation

• Verify drawings, highlight discrepancies, and support technical problem‑solving

• Assist with coordinating subcontractors to ensure works align with engineering requirements

• Monitor progress against programme and report engineering updates to the site team

• Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and maintain relevant records

• Uphold heritage protection measures and ensure works follow listed‑building guidelines

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer on refurbishment projects (heritage/listed building experience highly advantageous)

• Strong setting‑out skills using total station/EDM equipment

• Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and QA processes

• Experience producing ITPs, check sheets, as‑built records, and engineering reports

• SSSTS or equivalent certification preferred

• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with site and conservation teams

• Ability to commit to the full 10‑month programme

Contract Details

• Rate: £330 per day (no CIS, outside IR35)

• Start: ASAP / early start available
