Your new role

The Payroll & Benefits Manager will manage end-to-end payroll and employee benefits for c450 employees, ensuring that services are simple for customers (people managers and colleagues) and compliant with policies and statutory requirements.


  • Monitor and manage the services provided by payroll providers i.e. L&G pension, EdenRed, Medicash, Cyclescheme (EV Scheme)
  • Facilitate annual renewals of life assurance and income protection policies.
  • Support the HR Director with HR process controls and checks as required, in line with audit, risk and governance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to drive efficiencies within payroll processes and push to improve service delivery.
  • Key contact point for 3rd party benefit providers
  • Review the effectiveness of current benefits provision, providing recommendations for improvement where appropriate
  • Drive awareness of benefits offering with employees to maximise benefit utilisation
  • Upskill the HR operational team on payroll to provide backup cover
  • Own the annual salary review process
  • Work with the HRD to develop and implement a total reward framework and flexible benefits

What you'll need to succeed

  • Ideally CIPP Qualified

  • Experience of managing end to end payroll processes

  • Experience of cloud based HRIS/technology and managing 3rd party relationships.
  • Sound understanding of HR processes and people-related legislation
  • Analytical, able to interpret data and trends and take appropriate action.
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of managing salary sacrifice benefit schemes (including CTW & EV)
  • Ability to manage benefits across multiple platforms and manual processes
  • Prior experience of managing the annual salary review process linked to salary ranges and performance
  • Highly proficient / expert level competence using Microsoft Excel
  • Strong IT skills and confident using MS Office suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, SharePoint)
  • Comfortable operating as a standalone payroll manager - the role is hands-on
