Job Description
Post Title: Teacher of DT (Including Engineering and Product Design)
Location: South Birmingham
Contract: Full-time
Salary: (depending on experience)
Start Date: To be confirmed

Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of Engineering, Design Technology, and Product Design to join an academy. The successful candidate will inspire and challenge students across Key Stages 4 and 5, delivering high-quality lessons that prepare learners for both academic success and future careers in engineering, design, and related industries.

Key Responsibilities


•Deliver engaging and innovative lessons in Engineering, DT, and Product Design to students aged 14–19.
•Contribute to the development of an integrated STEM curriculum that reflects the academy’s employer-led ethos.
•Set high expectations for student achievement, behaviour, and independent learning.
•Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress.
•Collaborate with colleagues to share best practice and develop cross-curricular projects.
•Support enrichment activities, employer engagement projects, and academy events.
•Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in workshops and classrooms.
•Participate in departmental planning, assessment, and quality assurance processes.
•Contribute to the wider life of the academy, including open evenings, parental engagement, and student recruitment.

Person Specification
Essential:


•Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
•Strong subject knowledge in Engineering, DT, or Product Design.
•Ability to deliver high-quality teaching across a range of abilities.
•Commitment to raising attainment and supporting all learners to achieve their potential.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management.


Desirable:
•Experience of teaching KS5 (A-level or equivalent) Engineering or Product Design.
•Familiarity with CAD/CAM, electronics, or other specialist areas.
•Willingness to contribute to employer-led projects and enrichment activities.
