We are seeking a passionate and skilled Design and Technology Teacher to join our dynamic team and inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, and makers.
The Role
As a Design and Technology Teacher, you will deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and potentially KS5), fostering a love for design, engineering, and practical craft skills. You will be responsible for planning and delivering a broad curriculum that includes:
- Product Design
- Resistant Materials
- Graphics
- CAD/CAM
- Engineering principles
- Textiles (optional)
- Food Technology (optional)
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
- Develop students’ practical skills, creativity, and technical knowledge.
- Use a range of tools, machinery, and digital technologies safely and effectively.
- Assess, record, and report on student progress in line with school policies.
- Maintain a safe, well-organised, and inspiring workshop environment.
- Contribute to curriculum development and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular learning and innovation.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- A degree in Design and Technology, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience teaching D&T at secondary level (KS3 and KS4 essential; KS5 desirable).
- Strong knowledge of the national curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, 2D Design) and CAM equipment (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers).
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with A-Level or BTEC Engineering/Design courses.
- Ability to teach across multiple D&T disciplines.
- First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., CLEAPSS training).
- A creative, innovative, and reflective approach to teaching and learning.
