Design Manager

Your new company

You’ll be joining a nationally recognised Tier 1 main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex public sector schemes across the UK. Known for their collaborative approach and commitment to innovation, they are currently delivering a major refurbishment and new build programme on a secure government site in Wiltshire. The project forms part of a wider framework agreement and is set to run for approximately two years.

Your new role

As Design Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading the design process from preconstruction through to delivery. Working closely with the Architects and Project Manager on the project, you’ll manage consultant and subcontractor design teams, coordinate technical reviews, and ensure timely delivery of design information for procurement and construction. The scheme includes new build elements using precast concrete structures, extensive MEP installation, and fire safety upgrades to existing buildings — all within a secure perimeter.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Chairing design team meetings and managing design deliverables
  • Liaising with architects, consultants, and internal construction teams
  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements, buildability, and current legislation
  • Identifying opportunities for value engineering
  • Supporting planning applications and engagement with local authorities

What you'll need to succeed

You’ll come from a permanent Design Manager background, ideally within the public sector — such as education, healthcare, or justice — and have experience working with Tier 1 contractors. A background in architecture, engineering, or construction delivery is essential, along with strong technical knowledge, stakeholder management skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Experience with secure environments or government frameworks (e.g. MOJ, DfE) would be highly advantageous.

What you'll get in return

This is a long-term opportunity on a high-profile scheme, offering stability, career development, and the chance to work on a meaningful public sector project. You’ll be part of a supportive team with hybrid working options, competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package.
