Credit Controller - 6 month contract, Shrewsbury

Your new company

Hays are working alongside a business who are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Credit Controller to join their finance team on a 6-month fixed-term basis. You will be responsible for managing the company’s credit and collections processes, ensuring timely payments, and maintaining healthy cash flow. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills and a passion for problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.

Your new role

As a Credit Controller, your role will involve:
  • Monitor and manage outstanding debts across customer accounts.
  • Chase overdue payments via phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate records of all communications and payment plans.
  • Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assess creditworthiness of new and existing customers.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly aged debt reports for management.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing issues.
  • Escalate problematic accounts to legal or external collection agencies when necessary.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in credit control or accounts receivable.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial systems.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Xero).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude.
