Temp Credit Controller – Belfast (Full‑Time, Office‑Based)

Your new company

A well-established and fast-growing organisation within the FMCG sector is seeking an experienced Credit Controller to join their finance team on a temporary basis. Operating across both retail and trade markets, the business manages a high volume of customer accounts and provides end‑to‑end distribution, commercial and operational services. Due to continued growth and increased demand within the finance function, an additional resource is required to support effective cash collection and maintain a clean, well‑managed sales ledger.


Your new role

Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for managing the full credit control portfolio, overseeing a large and diverse ledger, and ensuring timely collection of outstanding debt. Your duties will include:
  • Proactive chasing of overdue invoices across retail, wholesale and key account customers
  • Managing high‑volume FMCG accounts and resolving pricing, rebate and short‑payment queries
  • Handling deductions, chargebacks and promotional disputes in collaboration with sales teams
  • Daily cash allocation and reconciliation of complex customer accounts
  • Maintaining accurate credit limits and raising credit notes where required
  • Producing aged debtor reports, monitoring debtor days and supporting cashflow forecasting
  • Identifying potential bad debts and escalating risk accounts appropriately
This role requires strong relationship management, confidence in negotiation and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline-driven environment.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in credit control within FMCG or another high‑volume sector
  • Background working with major retailers or large trade accounts
  • Strong understanding of deductions, rebates and promotional claims
  • Excellent Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and pivot tables
  • Confident communicator able to challenge, negotiate and resolve disputes professionally
  • Ability to work independently and manage a substantial ledger with accuracy
  • Experience with EDI or retailer portals (desirable but not essential)
