Cover Supervisor (Unqualified Teacher)

Your new company

HaysEducation partner with several secondary schools across the Wigan area who are seeking enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support them on both a full ‑ time and part ‑ time supply basis.

This role is ideal for anyone hoping to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a career in teaching, or for individuals who simply enjoy working with young people and want to make a positive impact in schools.

Your new role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining continuity of learning during short ‑ term teacher absences. You’ll oversee whole classes, manage behaviour in line with school policies, and guide students through the work that has been set for them. There is no planning or marking involved, and the lesson content is designed so that it can be delivered by staff without subject specialism.

What you'll need to succeed

•Previous experience working with young people (youth/ community work, sports coaching, social care, classroom experience).
•Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
•Professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude.
•Ability to remain calm, organised, and proactive in a busy school setting.
•A genuine interest in education—perfect for aspiring teachers or youth mentors.

What you'll get in return

  • Fully flexible working — choose full‑time or part‑time.
  • Weekly competitive pay.
  • Simple digital timesheet submission.
  • A dedicated Hays consultant specialising in North West secondary schools.
  • Opportunities for regular, repeat bookings in familiar schools.
  • Access to long‑term roles as they arise.
  • Continuous professional development using the Hays App.
