An established SME operating within the transport and logistics sector is seeking a highly skilled Company Accountant to join their team. This is a pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Your new role
As the Company Accountant, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s financial operations. This is a standalone role reporting directly to senior management, requiring a hands-on approach and strong commercial awareness. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Overseeing cash flow management and working capital
- Managing payroll and statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, etc.)
- Liaising with external auditors and ensuring compliance with accounting standards
- Implementing and maintaining robust financial controls
- Supporting strategic planning and providing financial insights to management
What you'll need to succeed
- Part Qualified/ QBE or Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in a similar role within an SME environment
- Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of UK accounting standards
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in accounting software and Excel
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
