Civil Litigation | Locum Public Sector | Hybrid Working | ASAP Start

Your new company

A large, well‑established shared public sector legal service is seeking a Civil Litigation Lawyer to join its busy litigation team on a rolling contract basis. The service supports a wide range of public bodies across London and the Home Counties and is known for delivering high‑quality, cost‑effective legal advice across multiple specialist areas.

You’ll be part of a forward‑thinking legal service with a strong emphasis on collaboration.


Your new role

As a Civil Litigation Lawyer / Senior Lawyer (G10–MG1), you will manage a varied caseload across housing, homelessness, licensing, judicial review, and general civil litigation.
Key responsibilities:
  • Advising clients across a broad range of civil litigation matters
  • Managing your own caseload to recognised quality standards
  • Drafting and negotiating legal documents and pleadings
  • Providing clear, practical legal advice (including in public meetings)
  • Attending court and hearings, including occasional out‑of‑hours work
  • Contributing to training and knowledge sharing
  • Supporting or mentoring junior team members (G11/MG1)
  • Handling complex and politically sensitive matters at senior levels

What you'll need to succeed

You must be a qualified solicitor, barrister, CILEx lawyer, or overseas‑qualified lawyer with relevant litigation experience.
Essential requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of civil litigation procedure

  • Experience in housing, homelessness, licensing, or judicial review

  • Excellent communication and client‑care skills

  • Ability to manage a busy, diverse caseload

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills

  • Confidence advising senior officers and committees
