Welfare Labourer – HMP East Sutton Park (Maidstone)

  • Long-term work until 26th February 2027
  • Competitive pay rates:
    • Umbrella: £17.93 per hour
    • PAYE: £15.47 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
  • Monday to Friday working hours: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Ongoing support from Hays recruitment team

Your new company
Working via Hays Specialist Recruitment, you will be supporting a reputable contractor on a secure project within HMP East Sutton Park. This is a long-term opportunity on a well-managed site with consistent work available.

Your new role
We are currently seeking a reliable Welfare Labourer to join a live construction project within a prison environment. This role will focus on maintaining welfare facilities and ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation across the site.

Duties will include:
  • Cleaning and maintaining site welfare facilities, including canteens, toilets, drying rooms, and offices.
  • Ensuring communal areas are kept clean, safe, and well-presented
  • Replenishing consumables such as soap, toilet roll, and paper towels
  • Carrying out general labouring duties when required, including site clearance and waste management
  • Assisting with deliveries, moving materials, and supporting trades on site.
  • Maintaining safe working conditions and adhering to all health & safety regulations

What you’ll need to succeed
  • Valid Green CSCS Card
  • Full PPE including:
    • Hard hat with 4-point chin strap
    • Safety glasses
    • Gloves
    • High-visibility vest (unbranded)
    • Safety boots
  • Ability to pass prison vetting (Hays will support with this process)
  • Previous site experience in a labouring or welfare role preferred
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
