Category Manager for a Specialised Manufacturing Businesses

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
Working Pattern: 5 days on-site per week
Location: Plymouth


Your new company

An exciting and unique manufacturer that has grown to operate multiple sites, covering over 1.1 million square feet. Known for high-quality engineering, innovative design, and exceptional finished products, the company offers a diverse range of goods. After recent investment, they have grown drastically and are looking to scale out their procurement team by implementing category management.


Your new role

As a Category Manager, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies, managing supplier relationships, and driving cost-savings initiatives within direct spending. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of category management principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute category strategies to optimise cost, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks within the assigned category.
  • Manage supplier relationships, including negotiation of contracts, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality, to ensure alignment of category strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance category performance and achieve cost savings targets.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to category management.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends to maintain a competitive edge.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Relevant qualifications (i.e. CIPS) or time-served.
  • Proven experience as a Category Manager or in a similar procurement role within a similar industry.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • A strong understanding of data interpretation in relation to purchasing
