Hays is recruiting substance misuse team leader for a drug and alcohol service in East London.

Location: Tower Hamlets
Salary: £36,000–£39,000 (incl. London Weighting)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

About the Role
We are recruiting a Team Leader on behalf of a specialist drug and alcohol recovery service in Tower Hamlets, delivering culturally sensitive support to individuals from diverse communities. The service has a strong focus on engaging Bangladeshi and Somali service users, ensuring that support is accessible, culturally informed, and aligned with community needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner ready to step into a leadership role or an established Team Leader seeking a meaningful, community‑focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide line management, supervision, and day‑to‑day support to Recovery Support Workers.
Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development needs.
Manage staff rotas and allocate resources to meet service demands.
Lead team meetings, case discussions, and promote a cohesive, supportive team culture.
Ensure accurate and compliant documentation, record‑keeping, and data protection practices.
Deputise for the Service Manager in partnership meetings and borough‑wide substance misuse forums.
Hold a caseload of clients with complex drug and alcohol needs.
Deliver 1:1 key‑working sessions, assessments, risk management, and recovery planning.
Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups (e.g., relapse prevention, mutual aid preparation).
Work collaboratively with internal clinicians and external partners (housing, mental health, probation, etc.) to ensure integrated care.

What skills and experience you need to have:

Significant experience in drug and alcohol treatment or related health/social care settings.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading staff.
Experience managing complex caseloads, assessments, and risk management.
Experience working in multi‑agency environments.
Strong understanding of recovery models, harm reduction, and best practice in substance misuse.
Knowledge of safeguarding for adults and children.
Understanding of clinical governance and KPI monitoring is desirable.
Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop a team.
Confident IT skills.
Ability to adapt communication and support approaches to ensure cultural relevance.
Ability to speak Bengali and/or Somali is desirable.
