Your new role
As a Data Centre Engineer, you'll be instrumental in maintaining the stability and efficiency of our client's core data centres and comms rooms. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll be responsible for both the physical infrastructure and the IT hardware within it. You'll work closely with the Cloud & Server Architect and Technology Manager, playing a key part in coordinating installations, moves, changes, and decommissioning of physical assets. You'll also manage third-party vendors, implement new solutions, and ensure the continuous improvement of data centre operations. Expect regular travel to various sites and participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
What you'll need to succeed
- Extensive knowledge of Data Centre Environments, including enterprise-level cooling systems, UPS, generators, and Digital Infrastructure Monitoring Solutions (e.g., SolarWinds, Azure Monitor).
- Expertise in operating systems, server, storage, and networking technologies.
- Proven experience with Cloud platforms & architecture and On-premise Compute & Storage Infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Virtualisation infrastructure environments, specifically Microsoft Hyper-V & VMware.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server Roles (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, DFS, Group Policy) and Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online).
- Experience with Mail & Web filtering tools (e.g., Clearswift, Fortinet), VPN solutions (Microsoft Direct Access, Always on VPN), Remote Desktop Services & VDI Solutions, and Backup & Recovery Solutions.
- Familiarity with Cyber Security & Antivirus Solutions (e.g., SOPHOS, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint) and Endpoint Management Solutions (Microsoft SCCM & Intune).
- A good working knowledge of resilient electrical systems and other data centre support systems.
- Strong proven communication and influencing skills with the ability to develop effective relationships across all organisational levels.
- A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel frequently.
- Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota.
